PHP developer surprise

Most people assume that restaurant employees as a rule want to go on to work in the entertainment industry. That’s not true at the restaurant I frequent.  A few are studying hotel management.  My favorite waiter is actually a part time PHP developer. He explained to me that for the time being he is working from home and building his reputation by writing the language that produces web pages.  He is doing some contract work.  He works from home, but he enjoys working at the restaurant because he says it keeps him from getting to isolated and it helps him maintain his social skills. I’m glad he defined it in terms I could understand.  He and his colleagues on the staff have shown me that people don’t have to have just the one set of skills.  Anyone can do a number of things.  I would never suspect that the charming young man who waits on me is actually quite brilliant with computers.
